Our Impact

IMPACT #1:

CCDP will reduce past 30 day use of marijuana among youth by 3% by 2026 through marijuana education utilizing Youth Coalition members.

A coalition is required to focus on the following Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Seven Strategies according to the Tennessee Department of Health and Substance Abuse Services and the National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Marijuana use is a significant public health concern, with SAMHSA providing valuable information on the risks, side effects, and prevention strategies associated with marijuana use. Here are some key facts:

  • Addiction: Approximately 1 in 10 people who use marijuana will become addicted, with a higher rate of addiction in those who start before age 18. 
  • Mental Health: Marijuana use is linked to depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. It is not known if marijuana use is the cause of these conditions. 
  • Brain Health: Younger users may experience permanent IQ loss of up to 8 points. 
  • Pregnancy and Development: Marijuana use during pregnancy can lead to fetal growth restriction, premature birth, and problems with brain development. 
  • Legal Status: Despite its legalization in many states, marijuana remains illegal at the federal level.
