CCDP Youth Coalition is a youth-led, adult-supported program dedicated to preventing drug and alcohol use among students in grades 4–12. YC provides a safe and inclusive space where young people can learn, lead, and make a difference in their schools and communities. CCDP is also a SADD Chapter (Students Against Destructive Decisions). SADD empowers and mobilizes students and adult allies to engage in positive change through leadership and smart decision-making. Partnering with the Text Less Live More Campaign, Carter County Drug Prevention and Students Against Destructive Decisions are launching the Unplugged Adventures: Signal Lost Series, a summer initiative designed to help youth and families reconnect with their community through positive, screen-free experiences. This series combines outdoor recreation, leadership opportunities, and community engagement with important traffic safety and prevention messaging supported through the Tennessee Highway Safety Office STOP Grant Program. Activities are designed to encourage healthy decision-making, strengthen peer connections, and raise awareness about distracted driving and other risky behaviors affecting today’s youth. Throughout the summer and fall, participants will have opportunities to attend community walks, scavenger hunts, team challenges, beginner-friendly recreation events, and interactive activities focused on leadership, teamwork, and safe choices. Carter County Drug Prevention Fatherhood Support Program WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? Youth without a highly involved father are at a greater risk of early substance use. Studies show that up to 75% of adolescents in substance abuse treatment come from fatherless homes. Involved fathers boost a child's security, self-esteem, and success in school and life. In contrast, father absence increases the risk of delinquency—85% of youth in prison come from fatherless homes and face a higher chance of incarceration as adults. Children with both an involved father and mother have better physical and mental health, stronger problem-solving skills, and greater confidence and empathy. They also develop more self-control and moral awareness. In contrast, fatherless children face higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide. This Food and Fun PEAK event will be at 1208 W. G at Kiwanis Park 8/20/26 from 4:30-6:30. This picnic for youth of all ages is free and will be a great way to kick off our next round of monthly “food and fun” activities. We will have games, food, information, cold drinks, and things for our kiddos to enjoy. Stay tuned for our September edition.
